THREATS
There are many types of threats the Gondwana rainforest faces. These are some of the main main conserns
1. Tourism
2. Introduced Plant species (weeds)
3. Introduced Animal species (pest)
4. Climate change
Tourism
One of the most frightening threats facing the magnificent rainforest is tourism. Over 2 million tourists world wide visit the area each year to visit and enjoy the rainforest while participating in bush walks, although this allows the guests to experience the beauty of the rainforest it is also damaging the vegitation and the soil erosion in camp sites, tracks and steep or wet areas. Rubbish is also a major consern, big amounts of rubbish are left in these beautiful rainforest, this is causing a big problem for plants growth and animals habitats and environment.
Introduced Plant Species.
Some areas of the reserves are being majorly effected by introduced species of weeds, which are taking over other plants and effecting their growth. Some of these weeds that are causing problems in the Gondwana rainforests include: Lantana, Mist flower and Maderria vine.
Introduced Animals (pest)
New animal species such as pigs, foxes, cats, goats, deer and wild dogs are huge threats because as the run wild through the rainforest the crush and damage plants they also hunt other protected animals. This could cause a major threat of animal extinction of the native animals and loss of plant species.
Climate change
Climate change is a huge threat and concern to the Gondwana Rainforest. The high altitude impact will destroy relic species and restrict habitats for the native animals. There would have to be microlimatic conditions to enable the plant species to survive.
